Assistant (f/m) to the Director

The Max Planck Unit for the Science of Pathogens (to be established)
of Max Planck Director Prof. Emmanuelle Charpentier is seeking an
Assistant/Referent to the Director
for a full-time employment (39 hours/week) of initially 2 years.

Responsibilities:
  • Organization and management of national and international scientific activities and representations of the Director
  • Preparation, editing and management of personal and scientific reports and documents for the Director
  • Preparation and management of presentations to a scientific audience, school or the public
  • Preparation and management of presentations and documents for the communication of science to the public and society (ethical issues of CRISPR-Cas applications in life sciences)
  • Correspondence in German and English (invitations to public and scientific lectures, letters of reference, communication with and requests from scientific organizations, foundations, societies, universities, academies, medical patients…)
  • Organization and management of scientific seminars, conferences, workshops and networking events
  • Grant application and management, personnel data and contract management, budget planning
  • Preparing decision processes and strategic directions for the newly developed research Unit
Prerequisites:
  • PhD in Life Sciences (Biochemistry, Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology and/or Molecular Biology)
  • An additional degree or training in management is considered an advantage
  • A proven record of successful publications in highly respected international scientific journals
  • An international post-doctoral experience abroad is considered as an advantage
  • Experience as a scientific referent, project manager or personal assistant to a Director in a national or international research institution is considered an advantage
  • Profound knowledge of major national and international organizations and funding instruments
  • Excellent competence in software applications (Microsoft Office, database, reference and bibliography manager)
  • Perfect knowledge in German (native speaker)
  • An indispensable requirement for the candidate is to speak and write in excellent English and German

  • Friendly disposition, confident and responsible work ethics
  • Working independently and as part of an international team
  • Openness and interest in learning new tasks, ability to multi-task and work with tight deadlines

  • Excellent organisational skills, ability for structured work and taking personal initiatives
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic to work in a highly competitive, dynamic, stimulating and interacting international scientific environment focusing on basic biological research
According to the training, qualifications and professional experience, the remuneration can be up to EG 14 TVöD-Bund. The benefits correspond to the regulations of the public service.
