Junior Research Group Leader (f/m)

German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE). Dresden, 16.03.2017

The German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) investigates the causes of diseases of the nervous system and develops strategies for prevention, treatment and care. It is an institution within the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres with nine sites across Germany (Berlin, Bonn, Dresden, Göttingen, Magdeburg, Munich, Rostock/Greifswald, Tübingen and Witten). The DZNE cooperates closely with universities, their clinics and other research facilities.

For the site Dresden, we are inviting applications for the following position::

Junior Research Group Leader (f/m)

Code 8007/2017/2

Of particular interest for us are Psychologists, Neuroscientists, Biologists, and Clinical Scientists interested in the role of brain plasticity in neurodegenerative diseases with a scientific focus on sport medicine and/or life-style interventions. The primary criteria for appointment will be a strong record of innovative research and academic performance, an original and promising vision for a future work program at the institute, as well as high potential for establishing a competitive independent research group with fruitful collaborations.

The Dresden site is focused on the role of brain plasticity (including but not limited to adult neurogenesis) in resilience, prevention, compensation and therapy of neurodegenerative diseases. With this, we seek to develop biologically sound foundations for lifestyle interventions and regenerative medicine in neurodegeneration. Other studies at the institute deal with establishing stem cell based models of neurodegenerative disease. In order to complement our translational and clinical teams we search for a junior group leader with strong focus on translational and prevention approaches. An interdisciplinary perspective (e.g. between psychology and biology) is explicitly encouraged.

The position offers an excellent environment, access to state-of the art technologies as well as opportunities for scientific collaborations, locally and throughout the DZNE. For additional information on research programs and facilities, see www.dzne.de. We closely collaborate with the Center for Regenerative Therapies (CRTD) at TU Dresden (www.crt-dresden.de).

Employment, payment and social benefits are determined by the public sector collective agreement (Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst – TVöD). Junior Research Group Leaders at the DZNE have the opportunity to participate in a tenure-track program. To be eligible to this program, scientists should have received their doctoral degree not more than six years prior to the time of application. Periods an applicant has spent in caring for his or her own children or dependents, of up to two years, are not counted as part of the time that has elapsed since an applicant‘s doctoral degree was awarded. The position comes with a competitive package of funds for salaries and consumables.

The DZNE is an equal opportunity employer. The DZNE is committed to employing disabled individuals and especially encourages them to apply. You will obtain special skills and knowledge for your scientific qualification during your activities at DZNE.

Interested candidates should send their applications including a CV with a publication list and a summary of research achievements and interests (max. 2 pages), a 1-page project idea, and the e-mail addresses of three referees whom we might contact as a single pdf file to Prof. Gerd Kempermann, office-dresden@dzne.de.

The search will continue until the position is filled. To ensure full consideration, applications should be received by April 1st, 2017.

Bewerbungsschluss: 01.04.2017
