The Faculty of Medicine invites applications for a

W3 Professorship for Medical Physics and
Micro-Tissue Engineering

to be filled by the earliest possible starting date. This position is a permanent appointment and the professor will be director of the Institute of Medical Physics and Micro-Tissue Engineering (succession of Professor Kalender).
The successful candidate is expected to represent the field of Medical Physics adequately in research and teaching at the Faculty of Medicine. We are seeking a candidate with in-depth experience on fundamental aspects of the tissue microenvironment such as in-vitro and in-situ micro-tissue engineering, cell-derived 3D organoid systems or organ/ lab-on-a-chip technologies. The successful candidate will be expected to bridge challenges in regenerative translational experiments with basic and interdisciplinary research on micro-tissue physics. The professor will also be a member of the executive board of the newly founded Centre for Physics and Medicine (ZPM; which is a collaboration between the Max Planck Society, FAU and Universitätsklinikum Erlangen. The central aim of ZPM is to apply methods and concepts from physics to address challenges in fundamental medical research.
FAU expects applicants to become actively involved in research networks at the Faculty of Medicine [Collaborative Research Centres, Research Training Groups, Interdisciplinary Centre for Clinical Research, Medical Valley, Graduate School in Advanced Optical Technologies (SAOT)] and research programmes at Universitätsklinikum Erlangen. Excellent collaboration opportunities exist also with the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light (MPL) in Erlangen. The degree programmes Medicine, Dentistry, Molecular Medicine, Medical Process Management, and Logopaedics are taught at the Faculty of Medicine.
