Engineer/Laboratory Manager in
mass spectroscopy and chromatography
For LC/GC/MS metabolomics platform
Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science, at the University of Copenhagen, is offering a full-time position as facility manager of our LC/GC/MS metabolomics platform starting 1 February 2013 or soon thereafter. It is a one year position, with the potential of becoming a permanent position according to existing rules. The facility manager is expected to be part of the metabolomics unit that will be embedded in the new laboratories of the Copenhagen Plant Science Center to be built at the University.
Job description:
The aim of the advertised position is to further strengthen our metabolomics platform within plant metabolite profiling with special focus on small natural products. The facility manager will be in charge of running and advancing our key metabolomics platform at the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences.
The unit encompasses state-of-the-art equipment within LC-MS and GC-MS including three LC-MS'es (one single-quadrupole, a triple-quad and an ion-trap-MS), five HPLCs (of which one is preparative) and three GC-MS systems. Development of methods, analysis of samples, as well as maintenance of current and to be acquired mass spectroscopy and chromatography equipment is the major task within the position.

Qualifications:
In connection with the appointment to the position special emphasis will be given to the applicant's professional and personal skills as stated below:
- Strong theoretical and practical competences within analytical chemistry and especially mass spectroscopy and chromatography.
- Strong hands-on experience within chromatography and mass spectroscopy of small molecules.
- Enjoy practical work with hardware and software related to analytical chemistry.
- Possess excellent analytical capabilities.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Holding a PhD in natural product chemistry or analytical chemistry would be advantageous but not a requisite.
Terms of employment
The post will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
