Friedensau Adventist University (Theologische Hochschule Friedensau) is a state-recognized institution of higher learning of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. It has a School of Social Sciences and a School of Theology.
The School of Social Sciences welcomes applications for the following position to start in October 2018
Full Professorship (or Tenure Track Position) in Development Cooperation
The successful candidate will teach mainly in the MA programme “International Social Science”. The student body in this program is very international, and all courses are taught in English.
We expect the candidate to have strong research interests and substantial teaching experience in the area of development studies. Excellent knowledge of English (oral and written) is a prerequisite; teaching experience in English and experience in supervising students are desirable. Professional expertise should be demonstrated by active memberships in and networking with professional (academic) organizations. As the holder of this position will be responsible for the internship and practice oriented modules, experience in working in or with NGOs is desirable.
Personal research interests should include one the following fields: development cooperation, poverty analysis and social protection, land and development, sustainability studies, gender and development, or migration and refugee studies.
In addition to teaching and research, experience in acquiring exterior funding is desirable. We also expect willingness to be involved in academic committees and in managing and further developing course offerings.
The following application requirements must be documented in accordance with Section 35 and Section 40 of the Higher Education Act of Sachsen-Anhalt (Hochschulgesetz Sachsen-Anhalt HSG LSA): a completed Master-level university degree, proven teaching skills, and the ability for scientific research, evidenced by a doctorate in a relevant field. For a full professorship, additional academic achievements have to be documented, as evidenced by a habilitation (post-doctoral dissertation), a completed junior professorship or equivalent work as a research associate, alternatively a tenure track position may be offered.
Membership in the Seventh-day Adventist Church or another Christian Church is desirable.
