The Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context" at Heidelberg University (Germany) welcomes applications for a
Start-up Professorship within the Framework of Transcultural Studies
The Cluster's research focuses on transcultural exchange processes within and between Asia and Europe from historical as well as contemporary perspectives in a challenge to nation-state centered approaches. It aims to develop an integrated methodology for transcultural research that is determined by subject matter rather than academic discipline. The Cluster is embedded in a local and international community of scholars of high renown and offers a vibrant, constantly growing research environment for transcultural studies.
The successful candidate will further develop the transcultural and transdisciplinary research potential of the Cluster "Asia and Europe in a Global Context"; work to strengthen its capabilities to handle transcultural issues that cross cultural, geographic, linguistic and media borders; and contribute to opening career paths in transcultural studies for promising PhD and post-doctoral researchers.
The professorship will be open in rank from junior professorship to full professorship and limited to five years ("Beamter auf Zeit"). Applicants are expected to hold an internationally recognized doctoral degree; have a strong publication record of high scholarly acumen with elements connected to the Cluster's research focus; have achieved international visibility within their field; and have a strong record in research and teaching and their writing of pursuing transcultural and transdisciplinary approaches; success in acquiring external funding is a welcome additional qualification. Fluency in English is required, fluency in German appreciated.
To apply, please submit an outline of the research you propose to undertake during the next five years that includes a plan to apply for external funding; a CV; a list of publications, of successful applications for third party funding, of courses taught, and of the names and contact information of three scholars familiar with your work. Please include a portfolio with a maximum of five of your publications (articles or book chapters), which best represent your research.
