Starting Date 1 September 2017

EIFER (European Institute for Energy Research, www.eifer.org) was established in 2001 as a joint research institute between the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the energy company EDF.
It is located near the centre of Karlsruhe in the Technology Park. The institute gathers about 100 employees from different countries and offers a comfortable working environment equipped with advanced research facilities.

For the Research Group "Distributed Energy" EIFER is looking for a Group Manager (m/f) - Starting Date 1 September 2017

This interdisciplinary research group is focusing in particular its research on potential game changer on hydrogen and cogeneration and on key technologies in the context of sustainable local multienergy grids. The research on fuel cells and electrolytic Hydrogen covers the whole value chain from material development, cell-stack-system testing and system integration to field-testing as well as techno-economic and environmental assessments. These activities aim at tackling critical technological bottlenecks that prevent fuel cells and electrolysers from reaching market maturity. The research on combined heat and power (CHP) systems covers the assessment of the technoeconomic performance of CHP technologies by testing them in EIFER laboratory as well as in field experiments.

The group team members are contributing to several projects in the portfolio of the EDF Group and in the frame of national and EU wide public-funded projects (ANR, FCH-JU, H2020, BMWi?). In order to fulfil its mission, the research group establishes and maintains cooperation with EDF R&D departments, academic and industrial partners and local authorities.

The assigned tasks involve:
  • management of a multidisciplinary and international team of currently 20 researchers
  • strategic orientation and management of the research group in close collaboration with the project leaders, EIFER Direction, EDF R&D and EDF Business Units
  • development and management of new and current relationships with industrial and academic partners and local authorities
  • coordination and administrational tasks: competence planning, annual budgeting and reporting, communication of scientific results
  • contribution to the definition of EIFER strategy and the management of the EIFER activities as a member of the EIFER management team
Required qualifications are:
  • scientific background and experience in one or several of the fields of research covered by the group is seen as an advantage
  • proven experience as project or team managemer in a multi-cultural environment
  • ability and motivation for the management of a research team
  • interdisciplinary and analytical thinking
  • good knowledge of the energy sector
  • very good communication and social skills
  • excellent knowledge of English and French (oral and written), ability to speak German is a benefit in the clients/partners relationships
  • willingness for travelling
