The European Institute for Energy Research EDF-KIT EWIV (EIFER), established by EDF and KIT, located in Karlsruhe is currently looking for a

Research engineer in Energy technologies (f/m)

in order to further develop the competences in the field of "bioenergy" and "heating and cooling" technologies within the group "Bioenergy and Geosciences".

EIFER´s research is aimed at developing and improving innovative clean energy technologies as well as tools and approaches for the sustainable development of cities and territories. In particular, EIFER has a historical activity in the field of decentralised energy production technologies (cogeneration, renewable heat production, district heating systems etc.). This activity ranges from small individual systems to industrial plants and covers the whole value chain (resources, conversion technologies, waste streams, regulation etc.).

Specific responsibilities
  • Contribution to research projects designed both for energy systems operators and strategic entities of a utility
  • have a global understanding of the "Heating and Cooling" sector
  • realize renewable energy potential assessments
  • conduct technical studies on specific operational and/or strategic issues
  • Understand the client‘s needs (e.g. district heating system operator) and propose innovative solutions to the identified issues
  • Participate / lead collaborative projects related to the topic
  • Presentation of work / results in internal and external meetings, workshops and/or conferences
Required qualifications
  • Master degree or equivalent related to energy or engineering of energy systems
  • Professional experience (min. 5 - 7 years) in the energy sector, especially in the field of biomass and/or district heating
Further competences
  • Practical and technical knowledge about one of the topic of interest would be an asset
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Good level in French
  • Good presentation and communication skills
  • Good writing skills and ability to convey clear and efficient messages
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong innovation skills and ability to propose solutions to technical problems encountered
