Quantum computing scanning probe scientist for atomic electronics

  • Be part of the world's leading team in silicon quantum computing
  • Unique opportunity to join a new start-up in university setting
  • AU $102–164k + 17 per cent superannuation and leave loading
With $83 million of new commercial backing and in partnership with recently formed company Silicon Quantum Computing Pty Ltd, we are seeking more than 20 researchers, engineers and technicians from industry and academia to accelerate the commercialisation of our world-leading research in silicon quantum electronics.

SQC has a 5-year business plan to build a 10-qubit prototype quantum computer in silicon. The company builds on more than 15 years of research in the development of a quantum computer in silicon at CQC2T, where Australia has established a globally unique approach to building qubits in silicon using single atoms. The company is located at UNSW alongside CQC2T, which has more than 70 researchers, technical staff and students based here.

We are seeking an ambitious scanning probe microscopy expert to design, fabricate and measure multi-qubit devices relevant to the development of a silicon-based quantum computer. The successful candidate will fabricate atomic-scale silicon devices with atomically controlled dopant profiles.

The research program will include the development of architectures and techniques for the detection and control of individual spins in silicon, the controlled coupling between them, and the coherent transport of quantum information in a 10-qubit design.

This is a three-year fixed term position providing a unique opportunity to work within a truly multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers working at the forefront of global quantum computing internationally. This is one of more than 20 positions currently open for applications. View the full list of available roles on the CQC2T website.
