the position of
Associate Neven DuMont Professor (W2)
for Experimental Cardiology of Ageing
as per the requirements outlined in § 36 of the Universities Act of North Rhine-
Westphalia (HG NRW). The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
The candidate will direct his basic research program at the Department of
Cardiology, Heart Center, University of Cologne. The initial appointment will be
for 5 years and is followed by an evaluation prior to a potential tenured position.
We are looking for an excellent scientist in the field of vascular (patho-)biology.
She/he should have a MD or a PhD degree, a track record in scientific
excellence and in obtaining extramural funding, having enabled her/him to
conduct interdisciplinary and translational research. The candidate should have
experience in teaching in English.
The professorship of Experimental Cardiology of Ageing is preferred to focus
on the role of the innate immune system, namely leukocytes and their oxidative
and non-oxidative armament, to modulate humoral and structural alterations
of the vascular system. Major fields of interest of the department are vascular
(mal-)adaptations in heart failure, leukocyte-derived vascular remodeling in
pulmonary hypertension and in aortic disease by fostering the fundamental
theories of ageing processing.
Eligible candidates have established a strong track record in the postdoctoral
phase, and demonstrate educational and personal aptitude as well as substantial
international experience. The Faculty of Medicine seeks to appoint a candidate
with an excellent track record in research and teaching. Social skills, the
capacity to work in multidisciplinary teams and applying for third-party research
funds are prerequisites.
The Professor will be interacting with the existing groups on campus, within the
CECAD, the CMMC and the existing basic research groups in the Department
of Cardiology and within the Cologne Cardiovascular Research Center (CCRC).
Supported by competitive start-up resources, candidates are expected to
develop an independent and vigorous research program. Furthermore,
candidates should be committed to excellence in undergraduate/graduate
teaching and in supervising PhD students and clinician scientists.
