The University of Potsdam, Faculty of Science, Department of Mathematics
announces the following professorship to be filled by the wintersemester
Professorship (W2) in Data Assimilation
Candidates are expected to have a strong research profile in the field of highdimensional
and time-dependent inverse problems and to actively contribute
to the Collaborative Research Centre (SFB) 1294 "Data Assimilation – The
seamless integration of data and models" (www.sfb1294.de
). Possible research
foci include optimization algorithms for high-dimensional parameter and state
estimation problems, Bayesian model evaluation and comparison, uncertainty
quantification in the context of data assimilation, sequential and high-dimensional
learning, as well as semi- and non-parametric inference for stochastic processes.
Successful candidates will have demonstrated the ability to combine theoretical
and algorithmic advances with applications to problems of practical relevance.
Teaching duties will include courses in the bachelor‘s and master‘s degree
programs in mathematics and in the interdepartmental master‘s degree program
in data science. Candidates should have experience in the acquisition of external
funding, the organization of research projects, and academic self-administration.
Candidates are expected to have basic knowledge of German.
The qualifications necessary for an appointment under Section 41 of the Brandenburg
Higher Education Act (Brandenburgisches Hochschulgesetz, BbgHG) apply.
