Tenure Track Professorship (W1) in Computational Statistics
Universität Stuttgart. Stuttgart, 28.03.2018
TenureTrack Professorship (W1)
INSTITUTE OF STOCHASTICS AND APPLICATIONS I ATTHE EARLIEST OPPORTUNITY
in Computational Statistics
The position is associated with the Stuttgart Centre for Simulation Sciences (SC SimTech) and the Department of Mathematics at the Faculty for Mathematics and Physics. Complex and heterogeneous data is nowadays collected from various sources, often in an ad hoc fashion without designed or controlled experimental conditions, but the ability to extract meaningful and statistically sound information from this data is still limited. In particular, for large-scale or high-dimensional data novel, computationally efficient methods that go beyond standard statistical tasks are required. To address this cross-disciplinary challenge between statistical analysis, machine learning, uncertainty quantification, computational mathematics, optimization, and highperformance computing, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in research in at least one of the following topics: time-series analysis, inverse statistical problems, high-dimensional problems, functional data, statistics of stochastic processes, experimental design, stochastic sampling strategies, stochastic control or optimization, Bayesian non-parametric statistics, statistical aspects of machine learning. There should be an emphasis on the design, implementation, and statistical analysis of efficient and scalable algorithms. Experience in an HPC context is welcome. The teaching obligations will include teaching in the BSc / MSc courses SimulationTechnology and in the courses offered by the Department of Mathematics. The professorship is funded in the context of the joint program for the promotion of early career researchers by the German federal and state-governments.The position is a tenure track position leading to an appointment as aW3 professor in case of a positive evaluation.
