Bauhaus Luftfahrt is an interdisciplinary research institution funded by the four aerospace companies Airbus, Industrieanlagen-Betriebsgesellschaft (IABG), Liebherr-Aerospace, and MTU Aero Engines as well as grants from the Bavarian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Media, Energy, and Technology. The non-profit association is an internationally oriented think tank. Its team of around 50 employees deals with the future of mobility in general and with the development of air travel in particular. The goal of the research work is to consider the complex system of aviation from different points of view. In every project, the technical, economic, social, and ecological aspects are considered holistically.

As support for our team we are looking for a full-time

Computer Scientist as Researcher (f/m) in the Area of Software Engineering / Knowledge Management

Tomorrow’s digital economy provides the aviation industry with new opportunities and challenges. The research activities of the Knowledge Management Group focus on exploiting new approaches from the field of Information Technology. In this particular project, the emphasis is on defining new ways of integrating (pre-)design processes for aircraft design, as well as on implementing and testing demonstrator prototypes. Issues such as semantic interoperability in model-driven design processes, collaborative data management, context-based search and recent developments in research on Big Data, Smart Factory and Internet of Things (IoT) will be addressed. The results of the project will be released both as Open Source Software (OSS) and as scientific publications. The project will directly contribute to the German high-tech strategy for Industry 4.0, as the project’s consortium includes both industrial and research partners.

Your Profile:

  • University degree with or without PhD in the area of Computer Science
  • Experience in research and in Software Engineering
  • Proven skills in Java, software development with Eclipse, EMF, EMFStore and Git
  • Experience in data and process modeling
  • Interest in developing skills in Semantic Technology
  • Interest and experience in building an OSS community
  • Willingness and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams
  • Proficiency in English
  • Ideally: experience in Agent Technology or in Machine Learning
We offer a modern working environment on the Ludwig-Bölkow-Campus located in Taufkirchen near Munich, a team-oriented approach, flat hierarchies and flexible work time. Employment, compensation and benefits are determined by the collective agreement for public service and contain performance-oriented compensation as well as a company pension scheme. The position is assigned to the department “Knowledge Management” and initially implies a temporary employment contract.
