A unique program in Jewish Theology was created at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Potsdam in 2013. The School of Jewish Theology hereby announces the following professorship to be filled at the next possible opportunity

Full Professorship (W 3)
for Jewish Religion and Philosophy

The successful candidate will be responsible for the full range of research and teaching of classical rabbinic and philosophical texts with an emphasis on systematic theology. Experience in the pedagogy of religion is desired, since part of the responsibility includes the education of rabbis and cantors. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Department of Jewish Studies and Religious Studies, the Forum "Religions in Context" of the University of Potsdam, and the Center for Jewish Studies Berlin-Brandenburg.
The professor‘s responsibilities will include, along with research, and participation in the University‘s self-governing administrative bodies, teaching in the BA and MA degree programs in the subjects of "Jewish Theology," "Jewish Studies," and "Religious Studies," as well as the supervision of doctoral dissertations and habilitation theses. The position requires a special familiarity with perspectives and stances within the Jewish world; applicants shall be members of a Jewish congregation.
Prerequisites for the application are a doctoral degree and a record of research equivalent to the German "Habilitation" in Jewish philosophy of religion or intellectual history or Jewish studies. Experience in the acquisition of third-party project funding, and in the organization of academic conferences are expected.
Applicants from abroad are expected to master the German language at a sufficient level after a transition period of two years.
The qualifications necessary for an appointment under Section 41 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act (Brandenburgisches Hochschulgesetz, BbgHG) apply.
