PhD Student, Single-cell RNA-seq and bacterial pathogenesis

The Vogel lab invites applications for a doctoral student position to study bacterial pathogenesis by several RNA-seq based approaches. The ultimate goal of this project is to achieve a high-resolution of gene expression on the single-cell level. For research themes and more information on methodology, see some of our recent publications (Westermann AJ etal. 2016 Dual RNA-seq unveils noncoding RNA functions in host-pathogen interactions. The successful applicant will work in the dynamic environment of the Vogel lab at the IMIB and the Helmholtz Institute for RNA-based Infection Research (HIRI). Applicants are required to hold or to obtain a first-class or upper second class Master degree in biology, biochemistry, microbiology or a related relevant biological subject. They should have excellent theoretical knowledge of molecular biology and good laboratory skills. The position is available for three years (from March 1st, 2018 onwards) with the possibility of extension for up to four years. Salary will be based on the pay scale for the public sector in Germany (TV-L) and comply with qualification. Part time employment is also possible.
