The Comprehensive Heart Failure Center Würzburg (CHFC) is an Integrated Research and Treatment Center supported by the German Ministry of Education and Research. More than 120 scientists conduct interdisciplinary basic, translational, and clinical research and provide innovative patient care in the field of prevention of heart failure and its medical complications. The CHFC's vision is to improve the awareness of heart failure as an urgent health challenge in society, to connect existing excellent basic science and clinical research and to implement preventive strategies for diagnostics and management as well as new therapies. In 2017, the CHFC moved into a modern research building comprising four departments, i.e. imaging, translational research, genetics, and clinical research.
The Department of Translational Science (Chair: Professor Christoph Maack) at the CHFC investigates the pathophysiology of heart failure, with a special focus on mitochondria, metabolism, excitation-contraction coupling and/or their (epi-)genetic regulation.
This Department seeks to appoint

Post-doctoral researcher (PhD or MD)

The Department of Translational Science closely interacts with the Department of Genetics (Chair: Professor Brenda Gerull; focus: mechanisms of inherited cardiomyopathies), the Medical Clinic I (Chair: Professor Stefan Frantz; focus: the role of inflammation for cardiac remodeling), and the Core Facility Imaging (CFI; chair: Professor Laura Schreiber), which harbors a broad array of advanced imaging modalities. Furthermore, the candidate will benefit from the attractive interdisciplinary environment at the CHFC and its close cooperation with the departments of cardiology, cardiac surgery, nephrology, neurology, psychiatry, psychology, radiology, and nuclear medicine as well as from brand new research facilities. For further information on the scientific activities at the CHFC, please see our website at www.dzhi.de.
We are seeking an excellent young scientist trained in medicine or natural sciences who has already made excellent and innovative scientific contributions. The previous scientific activities should, but do not strictly have to be related to one or several of the main experimental research areas of the CHFC, in particular the Department of Translational Science. The selection of candidates will be based on scientific qualification and publication record. Potential candidates will be invited to present their work at a scientific symposium in Würzburg in October 2017.
The successful candidate will be appointed for three years, and there will be the option to extend the appointment to a duration of five years.
Payment will be according to individual qualification and the TV-L. Disabled applicants will be considered preferentially in case of equivalent qualifications.
Applications should include a cover/motivation letter, curriculum vitae, list of publications and a short description of previous research projects, names and contact details of at least one academic referee, and copies of credentials and certificates. These should be submitted no later than September 30, 2017 to
