The Comprehensive Heart Failure Center Würzburg (CHFC) is an Integrated Research and Treatment Center supported by the German Ministry of Education and Research. More than 120 scientists conduct interdisciplinary basic, translational, and clinical research and provide innovative patient care in the field of prevention of heart failure and its medical complications. The CHFC's vision is to improve the awareness of heart failure as an urgent health challenge in society, to connect existing excellent basic science and clinical research and to implement preventive strategies for diagnostics and management as well as new therapies. In 2017, the CHFC moved into a modern research building comprising four departments, i.e. imaging, translational research, genetics, and clinical research.
The CHFC seeks to appoint a

Research Group Leader (PhD or MD)
in the field of Experimental or
Translational Heart Failure Research.

We are seeking outstanding young scientists trained in medicine or natural sciences who have already made excellent and innovative scientific contributions. The scientific activities should be related to one or several of the main experimental research areas of the CHFC, which cover the pathophysiology of heart failure. Since the Research Group will interact and be supported by the infrastructure of the Department of Translational Medicine (Chair: Professor Christoph Maack), the research of the candidate should be preferentially focused on mitochondria, metabolism, excitation-contraction coupling and/or their (epi-)genetic regulation. Alternatively, research related to the mechanisms of inherited cardiomyopathies (Genetics; Chair: Professor Brenda Gerull) and/or the role of inflammation for cardiac remodeling (Cardiology; Chair: Professor Stefan Frantz) is also of particular interest. Furthermore, points of interaction with the Core Facility Imaging (CFI; chair: Prof. Laura Schreiber) would be of advantage. For further information on the scientific activities at the CHFC, please see our website at www.dzhi.de.
The Research Group will benefit from the attractive interdisciplinary environment at the CHFC and its close cooperation with the departments of cardiology, cardiac surgery, nephrology, neurology, psychiatry, psychology, radiology, and nuclear medicine as well as from brand new research facilities.
The successful candidate will be appointed for five years. The Research Group will receive up to 200.000 € per year for scientific and assistant personnel and consumables. Group leaders will be encouraged to apply for further third party funding. For MDs, a clinical involvement in one of the clinics or institutes of the university hospital is possible.
The selection of group leaders will be based on scientific qualification and publication record. Potential candidates will be invited to present their work programme at a scientific symposium in Würzburg in October 2017.
Payment will be according to individual qualification and the TV-L. Disabled applicants will be considered preferentially in case of equivalent qualifications.
Applications should include a cover/motivational letter, curriculum vitae, list of publications and a short description of previous research projects, a brief outline describing the scientific goals of the future Research Group, names and contact details of two academic referees, and copies of credentials and certificates. These should be submitted no later than September 30, 2017 to
