The University Medical Center (UCT) Mainz of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz is ranked as a leading research institution of Germany having a strong cancer immunology program. The newly established DKTK / DKFZ laboratory research group of Dr. Guezguez at the Department of Hematology / Oncology / Pneumology of UCT Mainz is seeking highly qualified and talented students who would like to undertake a PhD fellowship in cancer immunotherapy. Our research program is focused on dissecting the molecular and cellular regulation derived from specialized bone marrow microenvironment called “niche” that underlies the self-renewal / survival of normal hematopoietic stem cells and their malignant leukemia stem cell counterparts. In doing so we aim to identify the processes that when dysregulated lead to leukemic transformation and relapse and therefore represent critical therapeutic targets for the clinic. (Guezguez et al., Stem Cells 2010; Guezguez et al., Cell Stem Cell 2013; Guezguez et al., Cancer Cell 2016). Your profile:
Highly motivated candidates with an outstanding university degree in biology, biochemistry or related fields that have an interest in hematological malignancies with a particular emphasis in tumor microenvironment and cancer immunotherapy. Strong background in stem cell biology, oncology or immunology is essential. Experience in primary cell culture techniques, complex multicolor flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and in mouse experimentation would be beneficial. Excellent communication and writing skills in English are required. If you are interested in joining this ambitious team in an exciting field of stem cell and cancer research, then please send the complete application in English (one PDF file) including a motivation letter, CV, a brief summary of previous research experience and two references. The position is limited to 3 years. The Translation Center is located at the University
Medical Center (UCT) in Mainz.
