The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of

to begin in winter semester 2019/20. The position is a W2 fixed-term position (6 years) with tenure track to a tenured W3 position (Associate Professor). The professorship is funded by the Federal Tenure Track Programme.
TUM is the supporting university of the Hochschule für Politik München (HfP), and this is why the open dialogue between policy makers, society, industry and
engineering is promoted. The professorship belongs to the HfP and its corresponding department, the TUM School of Governance (GOV). The TUM School of Governance
focuses its research and teaching on the interaction between politics, society, and technology, for instance, to integrate future technologies into the political
dialogue and political decision- making
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the support and promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the
research area of Global Security & Technology with an innovative transdisciplinary research agenda in political science, who engages with current issues
in global security and the underlying new technologies (ideally with expertise in the field of cybersecurity or cooperation and conflict in security policy)
in close cooperation with the thematically related departments of the TUM, such as the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Department of
Informatics or the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The teaching load includes courses in the university's bachelor´s and master´s programs. We expect
the successful candidate to integrate technological aspects into political science in research and teaching. Inter- or transdisciplinary approaches are
therefore considered an asset.
We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international standards.
A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English
and German, are also prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad, the proven ability to gain and to lead cooperative research projects and third-party funding,
and an empirical and/or theoretical focus on the role of new technologies for security studies from an inter- or transdisciplinary perspective are expected.
Based on best international standards and transparent performance criteria, TUM offers a merit-based academic career option for tenure track faculty from Assistant
Professor through a permanent position as Associate Professor, and on to Full Professor. The regulations of TUM Faculty Recruitment and Career System apply.
TUM provides excellent working conditions in a lively scientific community, embedded in the vibrant research environment of the Greater Munich Area. The TUM Munich Dual
Career Office (MDCO) provides tailored career consulting to the partners of newly appointed professors. MDCO gives assistance for relocation and integration of new professors,
their partners and accompanying family members.
TUM is an equal opportunity employer. As such, we explicitly encourage applications from women. Applications from disabled persons with essentially the same qualifications will be given preference.
Application documents should be presented in accordance with TUM’s application guidelines for professors. These guidelines and detailed information about the TUM Appointment and Career System are available on
