Assistant Professor, tenure track (development agreement)
Fulltime, 40 hours/week
Please note that for this position, a development agreement can be considered after a period of two years. Under the terms of the WU personnel development plan, the position of Assistant Professor, tenure track, is limited to an employment period of not more than six years. After successful fulfillment of any development agreement made, employment can be made permanent.
This Assistant Professor (tenure track) call is open to highly motivated researchers with a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in business administration, computer science, engineering, physics, mathematics, economics, or related disciplines.
Your responsibilities
The successful applicant's duties and responsibilities include research, teaching, student advising, and administration tasks. You will conduct independent and collaborative research in blockchain technology and crypto-economics and acquire and manage third-party funded research projects.. Based on your academic and technical strengths and interests, your research and student supervision activities will fall into one of the following broad categories:
- Theoretical blockchain foundations
- Blockchain-based systems, networks, and applications design and implementation
- Crypto-economics and Decentralized Finance (DeFi)
- Blockchain for AI (e.g., trustworthy AI, federated learning, etc.)
- Blockchain networks and crypto-economics analytics (data science, machine learning, deep learning applications)
Your profile
We are looking for highly motivated applicants with a solid academic record who have completed a relevant Ph.D. degree (or equivalent). The ideal candidate should have:
- Demonstrated ability and interest to produce high-quality research publications
- Strong technical skills and background knowledge in one of the following areas:
- Blockchain technology (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.)
- Data analytics (data science, machine learning, deep learning)
- Game theory and behavioral economics
- Strong quantitative skills, including at least one of the following:
- Data science, including social networks data processing
- Machine learning, including deep learning and reinforcement learning
- Mathematical modeling
- Demonstrated understanding and use of advanced statistical inference
- Expertise in at least one programming language for blockchain development or data analytics, such as Python, R, Solidity, etc.
- High proficiency in English language and academic writing
- Willingness to use multimedia formats in teaching
Research interest in blockchain technology and crypto-economics is a prerequisite. If you are an exceptional candidate who lacks the necessary background but has a strong interest and ability to catch up quickly, in that case, you are encouraged to apply, and your application will be given full consideration.
