Assistant Professor/Associate Professor in Organic Chemistry at Aarhus University 874687
Applications are invited for positions as Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry,
Aarhus University, Denmark (www.chem.au.dk). The intended start date for this appointment is September 1st, 2017.
The Department of Chemistry at Aarhus University is one of the leading European chemistry departments with research programs that
range from medicinal chemistry to theoretical chemistry. It has a permanent staff of ~30 full and associate professors, a support-staff
of ~30 people, ~150 PhD-students and postdocs and more than 500 students.
The positions are in the field of experimental organic chemistry with special emphasis on chemical biology and/or medicinal chemistry.
The ideal candidates possess a track record of scientific research within these fields at a high international level documented through
articles in peer reviewed international journals. The candidate’s research plan must outline research visions and topics, and it must
complement other activities at the Department of Chemistry.
The successful candidates must have a track record of relevant excellent scientific research documented through articles in peer-reviewed
international journals. Clear evidence of independent research activities and success in obtaining research funding are essential. The
candidates are expected to build an independent research group and conduct an active program of internationally recognized research.
The ability to engage in cross-disciplinary research projects to neighboring fields (e.g. molecular biology, medical sciences and
engineering) as well as collaboration with colleagues at the Department of Chemistry, the Faculty of Science and Technology, other
institutions and industry will also be considered positively.
The successful candidates must be able to teach introductory chemistry courses as well as undergraduate- and graduate-level courses
in the general field of organic chemistry including medicinal chemistry, and chemical biology. A non-Danish candidate is expected to
be able to teach in Danish on undergraduate courses within a 3-5 year timeframe.
Further expectations for the two levels of appointment are: Assistant Professor: Candidates must demonstrate potential for excellent research and teaching. Extensive postdoctoral training or
similar is expected (see below for tenure-track program) Associate Professor: Candidates must have an excellent record of independent research accomplishments, scholarly achievement, teaching
experience, an established record of external funding is essential, as well as concomitant strong evidence of emerging leadership in their field.

Short-listing is used. This means that after the deadline for applications - and with the assistance from the assessment
committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, - the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated.

Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the
Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish

candidates are appointed as Assistant Professors for a period of 6 years with the prospect of a performance-based advancement
to a tenured position as Associate Professor. As part of the Aarhus University Tenure Track Program, the University carries out
a mid-term evaluation to review the progress of the tenure track candidate, according to the same criteria used in the final
