For the research group Mechatronics, we are looking for an associate professor for the research trakc Smart Industrial Systems with professional experience in the industrial automation. It is important that you have affinity for robotics, computer vision and sensoring systems. As an associate professor you will be - in consultation with the professor- responsible to acquire and coordinate the research track of Smart Industrial Systems.
a passionate industrial automation expert with knowledge about robotics, control technology, sensoring, IoT and vast experience in the development or maintaining of (mechatronic) production systems;
interested in the newest robotics and mechatronic techniques on a global level and you would like to apply this investigative knowledge within the regional business community by means of cooperation projects;
an inspiring technician who is able to coach people, convey his or her knowledge and make a contribution to the professional development of students as well as lecturers;
an inspiring team player for the industrial partners and colleagues at Saxion;
capable of taking on and completing research and education-related tasks?
Your Qualifications and Experience:
a Master‘s degree in Electro technology, Control technology, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, but preferably a PhD and have at least a proven record of work experience in industrial automation;
experience as a lead engineer or systems engineer designing production systems and applying industrial robotics and computer vision systems in production environments;
experience and/or knowledge as a production systems developer maintaining ( modular reconfigurable) production systems;
experience with PLCs (for example Bekhoff, Siemens), programming languages such as TwinCat, Codesys, Step 7;
knowledge and expertise in selecting and applying various types of sensoring modules, electrical and pneumatic drivers and industrial networks;
(hands-on) experience with independently designing and realising a (mechatronic) controlling system in robotics or production automation;
affinity for or experience with modern education methods in higher professional education?
Then this may be the job for you:
coordinating this research track as one of the associate professors of the research group and supervising the project teams using your expertise;
work independently with the business community to further refine and concretize this research track by means of setting up new projects;
developing the first proof-of-concepts of new smart industrial systems (3D printers, positioning platforms, industrial robotisation, collaborative robots, computer vision, robot arms and flexure grippers) along with more than ten other researchers in the research group Mechatronics;
setting up and together with your project teams supervising student assignments based using students from the related programmes (mechanical engineering, mechatronics, electrical engineering/applied computer science) such as the minor industrial automation, the smart solutions semester, internships and graduation thesis;
defining the R&D roadmap for smart industrial systems in East-Netherlands together with other knowledge institutions, business partners and Smart Industry FieldLabs;
collaborating as a team with the R&D departments of industrial partners.

School of Life Science, Engineering & Design
The school of Life Science, Engineering & Design includes ten bachelor programmes and a master programme: Biology and Medical Laboratory Research, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Forensic Science, Industrial Design Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Engineering Physics and Mechanical Engineering and a master Applied Nanotechnology.
The school provides education and applied research for approximately 2600 students and has about 170 employees. The programmes are taught at two different locations, Deventer and Enschede. The school has eight research groups: Lightweight design, Sustainable Energy Supply, Industrial Design, International Water Technology, Mechatronics, Nanotechnology Bio Interface, Nanotechnology Physics Interface and Advanced Forensic Technology.
Within the Mechatronics research group, applied research and innovative development is being carried out in the professional fields of robotic, modular mechatronic systems, systems engineering and smart industrial systems. Together with the (regional) business community work is being done to transfer the newest scientific insights into innovative technologies, and to explore them in new applications or apply existing technologies within companies, institutions or other areas. The research group is active in multiple projects that involve dozens of business partners. Within this growing research group, there are a number of permanent employees, a number of part time teacher/researchers and a group of approximately ten active students.
What do we offer?
A position as an associate professor (scale 13) Initially, this will be on the basis of a one-year contract, with the possibility of an extension. Depending on your knowledge and experience, your salary will be € 5.894,67 maximum (salary scale 13 in the collective labour agreement for the higher education sector [cao-hbo 2018-2020]), based on a full work week. In addition, you will receive a holiday allowance of 8% and an additional month‘s salary. Saxion aims for diversity amongst its team members.
