PhD Program Coordinator

Applications are invited for an exciting and challenging position of Coordinator of the German-Israeli Helmholtz Research School "Frontiers in Cell Signaling & Gene Regulation" (SignGene). SignGene is a joint initiative of the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC), the Charité - Universitäts­medizin and the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, as well as the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. The program is funded by the Helmholtz Association (http://www.mdc-berlin.de/signgene). Embedded in a highly international research environment, SignGene doctoral students are provided with high-quality training in biomedical research.
The SignGene Coordinator will be responsible for managing all activities of the Research School:
  • general administration and data management
  • marketing and promotion of the program
  • student recruitment in Germany and Israel
  • organization of the curriculum (scientific and soft skills courses, events, mobility)
  • planning and oversight of the budget
  • grant acquisition and fund-raising
  • support of the spokespersons in administration and strategic development of the program
  • action as a central point-of-contact for students and faculty
  • coordination with the relevant Graduate Schools in Germany and Israel
  • creation of an enthusiastic and welcoming atmosphere for students
The SignGene Coordinator will be situated in the PhD Office and work together with its team on the following tasks: marketing, recruitment, logistical support of training activities, and database management.
Successful and highly-motivated candidates for this position are required to:
  • hold a PhD degree in the life sciences
  • have international research experience
  • be an organized teamplayer with excellent communication skills
  • have strong planning and organizational skills
  • be proactive, combined with a high-level of initiative and independent work style
  • be willing to travel between Germany and Israel 1-2 times per year
  • have intercultural skills
  • have a professional command of English and German
  • possess the following computer skills:
  • Required: MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign etc.), Adobe Acrobat Professional
  • Beneficial: MS SharePoint, Filemaker Pro, Adobe Connect, content management for websites (CMS)
  • familiarity with data management and graphical design is beneficial
Appointment to this position will be at a level commensurate with the employment record and in accordance with the German public office salary scale (TVöD EG 13).
The position is offered for a fixed term of two years initially, with the possibility of extension.
