The Vetsuisse Faculty invites applications for a professorship in fish and wildlife health and director of the Institute of Fish and Wildlife Health (FIWI), within the Department of Infectious Diseases and Pathobiology. The position is tenable from February 2020 onwards.

The successful candidate is expected to establish an internationally competitive program of extramurally funded research on fish and wildlife health. The department is particularly interested in attracting candidates with a strong research interest in host-pathogen interactions at both individual host and population level, as well as expertise ranging from the molecular mechanisms of diseases, through environmental effects on hosts and/or pathogens (e.g. ecotoxicology), to evolutionary aspects of health and disease. Collaborations with established local groups working on host-pathogen interactions, Veterinary Public Health and Herd Health Management, and disease ecology are expected.

Besides research, the successful candidate will teach, supervise and examine undergraduate and graduate students in veterinary medicine and biology. In addition, she or he will direct the Swiss National Competence Laboratory for fish and wildlife diseases and the National Reference Laboratory for notifiable fish diseases, for which the FIWI provides accredited diagnostic services. Other duties include cooperating in the administrative work of the faculty.

Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant field of research, strong leadership, demonstrated ability to obtain competitive research funding, expertise in teaching and an excellent track record of high-quality research in fish and/or wildlife health.
