We are looking for a
The Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg, Germany, invites applications for the position of a Bioinformatician to start as soon as possible for an initial period of two years, with the possibility of extension.
Our group supports many deep-sequencing projects at the institute and from the Collaborative Research Center "Medical Epigenetics" (MEDEP). The open position provides an excellent opportunity for collaborations within a large network of interdisciplinary scientists from the Freiburg region. You will have the opportunity to contribute directly to research projects from experimental design to data analysis and interpretation. The successful applicant will join a strong interdisciplinary team that provides valuable know-how and access to a large sequencing facility (HiSeq3000, HiSeq2500, NextSeq), as well as a high-performance data center with petabyte-scale storage solutions.
Responsibilities include the development, comparison and testing of software solutions for the analysis of deep-sequencing data. In close interaction with our experimental partners, you will provide algorithmic solutions to their analysis and interpretation. You will also help with established training programs and support our partners with experimental design, quality control and the analysis of genome-wide data.
We are looking for motivated team players with strong communication skills and the desire to work in a dynamic environment. The successful applicant will have proven experience with deep-sequencing analysis and specific computational skills:
MSc or PhD degree in Bioinformatics or equivalent experience in a related field
proven expertise in programming, scripting and statistical analysis (esp. with Python and R)
experience with analysis of genome-wide data
organizational talent and multi-tasking ability
very good command of English language

Our Institute investigates the molecular basis of the immune response and other topics of the developmental biology, such as the origin and differentiation of the immune cells as well as the development of vertebrate embryo. Another main focus of the Institute is Epigenetics. This area deals with inheritable traits, which are not caused by changes in the DNA sequence.
