The German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) investigates
the causes of diseases of the nervous system and develops strategies
for prevention, treatment and care. It is an institution within the Helmholtz
Association of German Research Centres with nine sites across Germany
(Berlin, Bonn, Dresden, Göttingen, Magdeburg, Munich, Rostock/Greifswald,

Biorepository Scientist (f/m)

A full-time position for the Biorepository Implementation Phase as
a Biorepository Project Manager is immediately available within the
Interdisciplinary Infrastructure Projects Office. The Core Biorepository
provides expertise and technologies for storage of biological samples.
The Biorepository Project Manager will be the prime contact for biorepository
services at the DZNE. The biorepository services include the storage logistics,
processing, retrieval and distribution of biological samples collected by
clinical, epidemiological, and basic research units within our organization. The
Biorepository Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the biorepository
equipment, for fulfilling internal customers‘ orders, for maintaining and drafting
policies and procedures (especially SOPs, workflows, and quality assurance
protocols), and for setting up and maintaining the Repository Information
Management System.
We are looking for talented candidates from the biological or biomedical
field with focus on biobanking. Experience in the field of automation applied
to biorepositories and biobanking would be an advantage, specifically the
generation and implementation of SOPs and workflows. The ideal candidate
would have a passion for accuracy and organization, and the ability to work
independently in a service-oriented way.
Required Qualifications:
- University degree (or an equivalent with years of experience) in Life
Sciences, a strong interest in the neurosciences
- Knowledge of sample management within population and/or clinical studies
- Experience with biological samples of human origin
- Experience in cryopreservation: safety handling of biospecimens, liquid
nitrogen freezers, dry shippers, and biohazardous materials
- Ability to apply critical thinking in order to analyze and resolve issues or
problems
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Reliable and efficient work ethics and ability to work independently
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with setting up LIMS protocols, database management
systems and/or data warehouse systems
- Practical experience with robotic platforms, automated liquid handling, or
automation scheduling software
