There is a vacancy for a permanent position as Chief Engineer or Staff Engineer (Operator of manual and CNC machine tools / Mechanical engineer), depending on qualifications, at the the Department of Physics and Technology.
The research in the field of experimental physics performed at the Department is at a high international level. To be able to continue doing this work, we need specialists with a broad and up-to-date technical experience. Among other things, we build instrumentation that is later integrated in satellites, rockets and airplanes. Recently we designed and built a large instrument for measuring X-rays and gamma radiation for the "Atmosphere-Space Interactions Monitor" mission, which is now installed on the International Space Station. We build similar instruments for airplane flight campaigns over North and Central America. Presently, we are designing and building a space mechanism as a part of the X-ray telescope onboard the SMILE satellite: a joint project between Europe and China, scheduled for launch in 2024. The successful candidate will participate in the design, construction and testing of those and similar types of hardware.
Machining, using manual and CNC lathes and milling machines.
Manufacturing of high precision mechanical components for space.
Participation in the design, development and testing of mechanical solutions for space applications.
Reading drawings, documentation and standards.
Operation of the in-house TVAC chamber

Qualifications and personal attributes:
The applicants must have master's degree, bachelor's degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering or similar. Formal education can in some cases be compensated by long and relevant experience combined with relevant courses.
The candidate must be able to work under pressure and deliver within tight deadlines. Overtime should be expected whenever required.
Mastering English, both spoken and written, is a must.
The successful candidate must have experience in operating manual and CNC lathes and milling machines.
Experience with CAD and CAM is necessary
Experience with ProE/Creo Parametric and Mechanica is an advantage.
The successful candidate will be working on equipment that is subject to export control in the regulations outlined for "Strategic Trade Authorization (STA)" under U.S. export laws, and the applicant must therefore be compliant with those regulations. Applicants from most European countries and USA are.
