Clausthal University of technologyClausthal-Zellerfeld
The "Scientific Computing" group at the Institute for Mathematics
(IfM) is inviting applications for a position as
Doctoral or Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f)
TV-L E13 (100 %)
for a duration of three years. The intended start of the project
is February 1, 2017.
The position is part of the research group "2337 - Denitrification
in Agricultural Soils: Integrated control and Modelling at
various scales (DASIM)" funded by the German Research
The research group will contribute to a better understanding
of denitrification (the microbial conversion of nitrate to nitrous
oxide or molecular nitrogen) and a better quantification of the
emission of green house gases by denitrification. Central aim
of the project in Clausthal is the development of a hierarchy of
models, which allow a high-resolution simulation of processes
at the pore scale (microbial conversion and growth) and at
the sample-/profile scale (transport of substrate, oxygen and
products) building on existing codes. The models will be
applied to measurement data of our project partners at the
universities of Gießen, Göttingen and Hanover, the Thünen-
Institute and the Helmholtz-Centre for Environmental Research -
UFZ in Halle.
We expect strong interest in modelling and numerical simulation
of processes in porous media. Applicants should hold a master
degree in mathematics, natural sciences or engineering
related to modelling and simulation. A solid experience in
scientific programming with C++ and a good basic knowledge
of the numeric of partial differential equations is required. We
expect the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team and the
readiness to contribute to teaching.
As an equal opportunity employer, Clausthal University of
technology actively encourages applications from women.
We welcome applications from qualified candidates of all
nationalities. Preference will be given to disabled applicants
with equal qualifications.
For questions regarding the research project please contact
the head of the scientific computing group Prof. Dr. Olaf Ippisch
(email@example.com). Interested candidates should send
their certificates, their CV describing background, training and
research interests and a statement regarding their previous
experience with modelling and simulation and their programming
skills in C++ as a single PDF (max. 10 MB) with the
keyword "DASIM" to Ina Küster (firstname.lastname@example.org)
until December 22, 2016.
