The Hertie School of Governance in Berlin is offering 10 doctoral stipends for its
starting in September 2019. The application period lasts from 1 December 2018 to 31 January 2019. The programmes offer rigorous academic training and familiarise students with cutting-edge methods in public policy research. They address exceptional candidates committed to research on public policy related research questions. The programmes are interdisciplinary, but offer a specialisation within economics, law, political science, and sociology.
Key selection criteria are the thematic fit of the dissertation proposal with the research agenda of the Hertie School and its faculty members, the applicant's academic performance and references, and the overall motivation.
We are particularly looking for students working in the fields of:
International security (especially empirical conflict studies)
Fundamental rights (especially from comparative perspectives)
Sustainability, climate and energy
Political economy and social policy (especially public policy and demographic change)
The Hertie School of Governance participates in several Berlin-wide graduate programmes, including (but not limited to) the Berlin Graduate School for Global and Transregional Studies (BGTS) and The Dynamics of Demography, Democratic Processes and Public Policies (DYNAMICS, DFG Research Training Group). The School is in the process of establishing five Centres of Competence, with the Jacques Delors Institute Berlin – Centre for European Affairs and the Centre for International Security Policy already open, the Digital Governance and Fundamental Rights Centres to open in fall 2019, and the Sustainability Centre to open in fall 2020.
The Hertie School of Governance is a private university based in Berlin, Germany, accredited by the state and the German Science Council.
