Early Stage Researcher / PhD Student (f/m/d) Division of Theoretical Systems Biology - Quantitative T Cell Immunology
Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum / German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ)
The German Cancer Research Center is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With approximately 3,000 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research.
The Division of Theoretical Systems Biology is seeking a
Early Stage Researcher
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an early stage researcher (PhD student) in Quantitative T Cell Immunology at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) Heidelberg.
You will join a collaborative project of the groups of Professor Thomas Höfer (Division of Theoretical Systems Biology) and Hans-Reimer Rodewald (Division of Cellular Immunology) on understanding the regulation of physiological T cell development and aberrations causing T cell leukemia (see e. g., Martins et al., Nature 2014; Busch et al., Nature 2015; Höfer and Rodewald, Blood 2018).
You will be part of the European Union funded H2020 Programme Initial Training Network on Quantitative T Cell Immunology, which involves universities, research institutes and industrial companies across Europe. You will be one of a cohort of 15 early stage researchers and will undergo training together and attend joint network-wide events.
Applicants must hold an excellent first degree in a quantitative science (bioinformatics, physics, mathematics or similar). Prior training in biology is not required but would be an asset.
The position is funded by the European Union under the Horizon 2020 Programme. Candidates must be eligible to be appointed as an early stage researcher in Germany. You will have, at the time of recruitment, less than four years full-time equivalent research experience and have not yet been awarded a doctoral degree.
Full-time equivalent research experience is measured from the date when a researcher obtained the degree which would formally entitle him or her to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the researcher is recruited or seconded, irrespective of whether or not a doctorate is or was ever envisaged. Additionally, you should, at the time of recruitment, not have resided or carried out your main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Germany for more than twelve months in the three years immediately prior to the date of recruitment. There are no nationality restrictions.
In the cover letter, please include a section marked eligibility in which you state (1) the number of months you have worked / resided in Germany in the last 3 years (2) how many years full time research experience you have had since completing your degree.
The position is limited to 3 years.
