Exploitation of Galileo / GNSS Space Service Volume (NAV-NME)
Your mission:
Have you (almost) completed your degree studies? Are you inspired by space exploration and keen to pursue a career in this exciting field? If so, perhaps you should take a closer look at the German Trainee Programme. Organised by DLR, it offers you the chance to work shoulder to shoulder with experts from the 22 member states of ESA - keeping your finger on the pulse of Europe's space programmes. Over a period up to 24 months, you will actively contribute to the latest research and/or technology projects. This is complemented by a generous scholarship. What better way to launch your career in international space business? The next GTP commences on 1st February 2019.
You will work in the Galileo System Engineering Unit (NAV-NME), part of the Galileo System Procurement Service in the Galileo Programme Department, responsible for the design, development and validation of the Galileo Satellite Navigation System (Space, Ground and User Segments).
Tasks:
You will support us to investigate how the Galileo signals and the provided services could be exploited to contribute to the success of future space missions. In doing so you will deepen your knowledge about the Galileo System. This could be a unique opportunity in your career path. The System team maintains a great overall view on all Galileo aspects!
In cooperation with colleagues from the Technical Directorate you will help us carry out System studies to expand the Galileo Service Volume to Space - for Low Earth Orbit up to Lunar missions - and contribute to the definition of corresponding System concepts and architecture studies.
An important aspect of your work will be to investigate also aspects of interoperability with other GNSS and spacecraft navigation means. Our team is putting effort on this at international level, i.e. through UN-International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (ICG). Your work contribution will directly reflect into such international collaborations with other GNSS partners and providers.
You will support us in identifying, trading-off, specifying and prototyping the needed technologies on the space receiver side as well as on Galileo System side. In doing so you will make use of the available Galileo first generation infrastructure (i.e. FOC satellites) and shape together with us the future Galileo System while interacting with the Galileo Evolution teams.
Your qualifications:
  • sound knowledge of GNSS and GNSS Receiver Technologies
  • knowledge of AOCS system & Sensors
  • familiar with System Analysis Tools such as MATLAB and AGI’s Systems Tool Kit
  • awareness of the aspects of GNSS interoperability, challenges of the Space Environment
  • proactive working attitude and open mind to learn many new things
  • German citizenship is absolutely necessary
  • applicants should have just completed (conclusion not older than two years) or be in their final year of a university course at Master's level in a technical or scientific discipline
  • candidates must be fluent in English or French, the official languages of the Agency
