The Molecular Epidemiology Research Group at MDC is committed to studying at the molecular level the relationship between lifestyle, genetic, metabolic and environmental factors with risk and outcome of chronic diseases such as cognitive impairment. For the DFG-funded project "Endothelial bases of postoperative cognitive impairment in the elderly", we invite applications for the position of one Epidemiologist (Scientist / Postdoc). The successful candidate will use data from a cohort study of 1,000 older surgical patients, the Biomarker Development for Postoperative Cognitive Impairment in the Elderly Study (www.BioCog.eu), to evaluate plasma biomarkers of endothelial dysfunction as risk factors for developing postoperative delirium (POD) during the hospital stay and postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) up to 3 months after surgery.
project planning, management and organization
collaboration with national and international partners
integration of patient data from several sources
quality checks of data on plasma biomarkers of endothelial dysfunction
analysis of the association of these biomarkers and POD/POCD risk
analysis of the contribution of cerebrovascular disease (brain imaging data)
project reporting and publication in international peer-reviewed journals
master's degree in life sciences (neuroscience, biology), psychology or medical degree
master's degree in epidemiology or public health
interest in molecular biomarkers and research into the epidemiology of cognitive impairment
fluent in English, German language skills are an advantage
good knowledge of statistics (SAS, SPSS or R)
experience in the tasks listed in the job description
Salary is according to the German TVöD E 13 (Bund)
