The Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association (MDC) is one of the world’s leading biomedical research institutions. Max Delbrück, a Berlin native, was a Nobel laureate and one of the founders of molecular biology. At the MDC’s locations in Berlin-Buch and Mitte, researchers from some 60 countries study human biology – investigating the foundations of life from its most elementary building blocks to systems-wide mechanisms. By understanding what regulates or disrupts the equilibrium of a cell, an organ, or the entire body, we can prevent diseases, diagnose them earlier, and stop their progression with tailored therapies. To enable timely application of research findings for improving human health, the MDC supports entrepreneurship and participates in collaborative networks. The MDC has a close partnership with the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin in the jointly run Experimental and Clinical Research Center (ECRC), the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH) at Charité, and the German Center for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK). Founded in 1992, the MDC today employs 1,600 people and is funded 90 percent by the German federal government and 10 percent by the State of Berlin.
The MDC is a member of the NAKO e.V., which runs the German National Cohort (NAKO Gesundheitsstudie), a population-based study, including 205.000 participants from different regions of Germany. MDC is co-applicant of the EU-funded project IMMEDIATE (Imminent Disease Prediction and Prevention at the Environment Host Interface), that aims at investigating the diet-microbiome-immunometabolism-axis as a sensor for health-to-disease transition and evaluate strategies to maintain an individual’s well-being. Within IMMEDIATE, NAKO data and biosamples will be used to investigate shared and non-shared inflammation signatures in the transition from health to disease in the domains of metabolic, cardiovascular and kidney function.
The Molecular Epidemiology Research Group at MDC invites applications for the position for one Epidemiologist (Scientist/Postdoc) (m/f/d) with expertise in the field of biomarkers and/or omics and chronic diseases.
Job Description
Within the Molecular Epidemiology Research Group, you will coordinate and conduct studies on shared and non-shared inflammatory signatures in the transition from health to disease. You will work in close collaboration with the IMMEDIATE partners within MDC as well as at collaborating national and international research institutes to coordinate, plan, manage and conduct the studies proposed by our research group for IMMEDIATE. You will coordinate the access to the required data and biosamples from NAKO for IMMEDIATE. You will integrate data from several sources and subsequently analyze inflammatory profiles in relation to prospective changes in metabolic, cardiovascular and kidney function. You will review the literature and write scientific articles to be published in international peer-reviewed journals.
