The University of Potsdam, Faculty of Science, Institute of Informatics
and Computational Science, invites applications for a joint
professorship under the Jülich Model with the Leibniz Institute
for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB) to be filled as
soon as possible:
Full Professorship (W 3)
for Digital Bioeconomy
The professorship is associated with the management of the “Data Science in Bioeconomy”
department at the ATB.
The successful candidate will have an outstanding international track record of research
activities in the subject area of the professorship. The applicant must show a strong interest in
interdisciplinary research in the fields of life sciences, environmental sciences, or geosciences,
as demonstrated by joint publications, international activities, and externally funded projects.
Experience in leading a research group and in acquiring third-party funding is required. The
successful candidate will represent the discipline in research and teaching and will also lead
the ATB’s “Data Science in Bioeconomy” department, which is to be established.
It will be the responsibility of the department head to set up a research program for the further
development and application of computer science methods in bioeconomy and agricultural
engineering. Challenges arising from both disciplines will be combined here, such as
sustainability and diversity, interoperability and scalability. We are seeking an internationally
renowned researcher working on the spectrum between basic and application-oriented
research. Specializations within computer science that are of particular interest to us include
data science, machine learning, computer vision, sensor networks, or green IT. Core areas of
interest in biobased circular economy and agricultural engineering include the development
and optimization of smart systems for agriculture, food processing, biomaterials production,
and residue management. Collaboration with the existing JointLabs “Wireless and Embedded
System Design“ and “Embedded Intelligence for Bioeconomy“ and with other interdisciplinary
cooperation projects is also expected.
The successful candidate will have teaching responsibilities of at least two hours per week in
the B.Sc. and M.Sc. programs in Informatics / Computational Science. Non-German speakers
are expected to acquire a working knowledge of German within the first three years of their
appointment.
