The University of Potsdam, Faculty of Arts, Department of History invites applications for the following position, to be filled as soon as possible:
Full Professorship (W 3) for Medieval History
The successful candidate will be expected to cover the discipline of Medieval
History in its full chronological and geographical range in both research and
teaching. This range is particularly important regarding academic teaching, notably
in relation to teacher-training degree programs. In terms of research, the
appointed professor must be an active researcher in at least two of the three
periods of the European Middle Ages, according to conventional periodization.
It is expected that the holder of this chair will work closely with professors in related
disciplines (Ancient History and/or Early Modern History), both in research
and in teaching. He/She will also contribute to the further development of core
areas of the Department of History (regional history, military/cultural history of
conflict and violence, history of religions). He/She should, moreover, be willing
to cultivate collaborative links with the public institutions of the State of Brandenburg
in the area of regional history and culture. Research interests in the field of
historical gender studies would be a welcome asset.
The successful candidate must demonstrate a willingness to develop international
research projects and networks. A track record of third-party funding and
management is also expected.
Non-native speakers of German are expected to acquire sufficient skills in the
language within two years to be able to function in the German academic environment.
