The following position in the Department of Medical Oncology of the West German Cancer Center, University Hospital Essen, Medical Faculty of the University Duisburg-Essen is available starting from January 1st, 2017:

The newly appointed scientist will head an independent research group at the Laboratory for Molecular Oncology, a fully equipped biomedical research laboratory embedded in the Department of Medical Oncology of the University Hospital Essen in Essen, Germany. The Department of Medical Oncology is integral part of the West German Cancer Center (WTZ), a leading comprehensive cancer center designated as Oncology Center of Excellence by the German Cancer Aid. As partner site of the federally funded German Cancer Consortium (DKTK), which is jointly formed by seven excellent university medical centers and the German Cancer Research Center Heidelberg (DKFZ), the West German Cancer Center offers a highly competitive scientific environment including access to core facilities, biobanks and large patient cohorts. Collaborative research with basic science is fostered through the Center for Medical Biotechnology integrating the Faculties of Biology, Chemistry and Medicine of the University Duisburg-Essen.
The appointee will be an internationally visible scientist (PhD) in molecular biomedical research related to cancer. A background in life sciences or medicine, scientific excellence documented by high impact publications and successful acquisition of research funding are required. Representation of a competitive research program on signal transduction or functional genetics in relation to cancer progression/metastasis, immune escape, treatment resistance or related topics is expected.
