Applications are invited for a fulltime scientist position to head a facility for microbial natural product isolation and structure elucidation at the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology in Marburg, Germany. We are seeking a highly mo tivated, science-driven, and collaborative scientist (m/f/x) with experience in preparative natural product isolation and identification, and structure elucidation
by mass spectrometry (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).
You will be responsible to establish and direct a state-of-the-art natural product isolation and structure elucidation facility (HPLC, SFC, NMR), including personnel. This includes the general management of the facility with daily and long-term organization, instrument maintenance, routine analysis, and method development, as well as data acquisition and interpretation. You will be expected to develop, innovate, and implement new advances in technology and bioinformatics relevant to natural product isolation and structure elucidation to support and drive research at our institute. In addition, resources will be available to follow independent research.
The position requires a PhD degree and ideally also post-doctoral experience or equivalent in natural product isolation and structure elucidation. Qualifications include hands-on experience with preparative chromatography, including HPLC / MS and NMR. We seek a good communicator who is able to interact with scientists from a variety of backgrounds, is team-oriented, self-motivated and enjoys working in a highly collaborative and fast evolving research environment.
The position is initially limited to two years but can be extended depending on performance.
The MPI for Terrestrial Microbiology consists of four departments and several department independent research groups and offers a stimulating and interdisciplinary research environment with approximately 280 people working at the institute. The daily language at the institute is English.
