Cluster of Excellence on Plant Sciences (CEPLAS) and Botanical Institute
With approximately 50,000 students, the University of Cologne is one of the largest universities in Germany and ranks among the Excellence Universities. It employs over 600 professors and 7,000 academic and non-academic staff.
CEPLAS is developing innovative strategies for improvement of sustainable crop production. The cluster is a joint initiative of the University of Cologne, Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf,
Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research, and Forschungszentrum Jülich. The Metabolomics Platform is a core facility of CEPLAS and is located in the Botanical Institute of UoC as part
of the MS Platform. Its goal is to make state-of-the-art mass spectrometry analytics accessible to all researchers at CEPLAS, the Cologne Biocenter, and the
Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. We are now looking for an enthusiastic postdoctoral scientist to head the platform.
Direct the CEPLAS metabolomics facility, with responsibility
for general management of the facility and personnel,
instrument maintenance, and routine analyses
Coordinate the Biocenter MS Platform
Develop, advance and optimise MS methodology to support and drive CEPLAS research
Participate in teaching
Develop/continue independent research including
applications for third party funding
PhD degree in a relevant field and minimum 2 years of postdoctoral research experience in metabolomics,
preferably on plant secondary/specialized metabolism
Developed skills in running and maintenance of mass spectrometers and application of software for metabolite analytics
Proven track record of scientific productivity
Capability to communicate and interact with platform users in German and English
Evidence of success in obtaining third party funding as well as teaching experience are desirable
Experience in supervising other scientists is desirable

The position is available from 1st January 2019 on a
full-time postdoctoral basis. It is initially limited to 4 years with a possibility of being made permanent, depending on performance. If the applicant meets the relevant wage requirements and personal qualifications, the salary is
based on remuneration group 13 TV-L of the pay scale for the German public sector.
