Postdoctoral Fellow (f/m) in Bioinformatics

German Cancer Research Center. Heidelberg, 13.02.2018

The German Cancer Research Center is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With approximately 3,000 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research.
The Division of Chromatin Networks is seeking a

Postdoctoral Fellow in Bioinformatics

(Ref-No. 029/2018)

Description:
The Division of Chromatin Networks at the DKFZ is building up an interdisciplinary team for single cell sequencing that integrates experimental and theoretical methods for different readouts (RNA, accessible chromatin, DNA methylation, spatial genome folding). We want to exploit the exciting new possibilities of high-throughput single cell sequencing for the analysis of primary tumor samples with respect to their heterogeneity and response to treatment for different types of leukemias. We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to conduct the bioinformatic analyses of these data (including machine learning approaches) and to subsequently develop models that predict features of the cancer pathophenotype. Prior experience with high-throughput sequencing data is a plus but not required. We are looking for someone with strong computational skills and experience in model development who wants to work in an interdisciplinary team and is willing to learn what is needed on the biology side. The fellow will have the possibility to further shape the theoretical single cell sequencing work of the division as we will continuously expand these activities.

Your profile:
  • PhD degree in systems / quantitative biology, physics, mathematics or computer science
  • Ability to independently solve complex scientific / technical problems
  • Programming skills (e.g. R, C, Python, Java, Matlab)
  • Knowledge of mathematical network modelling and/or machine learning approaches
  • Interest in gene regulation, epigenetics, genome organization and molecular oncology
  • Self-motivated and capable to communicate results in an interdisciplinary team
  • Able to integrate his/her scientific project within the work of a research consortium
The German Cancer Research Center is committed to increase the percentage of female scientists and encourages female applicants to apply. Among candidates of equal aptitude and qualifications, a person with disabilities will be given preference.

To apply for a position please use our online application portal (www.dkfz.de).
