The Institute of Polymer Materials and Plastic Engineering in the Faculty of Natural and Materials Sciences at the
Clausthal University of Technology together with the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM),
Berlin, invites applications for a
Junior Professorship (Salary Scale W1 BBesO)
in "Additive Manufacturing"
starting at the earliest possible date. BAM is a senior scientific and technical Federal institute with responsibility to
Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
The successful candidate is expected to represent the different aspects of additive manufacturing in research and
teaching with the focus on multi-materials components with ceramic or polymer matrix. The professorship will support
the activities of the Institute of Polymer Materials and Plastic Engineering at the Clausthal University of Technology
within the research program "Self-organized multifunctional structures for adaptive high performance lightweight
constructions" on the additive manufacturing of polymer systems with short and long fibers. Possible research topics
of the Junior Professorship are:
Development of processes for the additive manufacturing of multi-material components with ceramic matrix.
Revealing of construction principles in nature as blueprint for the additive manufacturing of biomimetic structures.
Characterization of these structures and their mechanical properties on multiple length scales.
Extraction of structural principles and structure-properties relationships.
Accompanying computer-based modelling of structures and structural adaptions for structures realizable with
additive manufacturing and reliable transfer to complex structures in 3D-printable components.
The future holder of the position has already gained research experience in at least one of the above fields and is also
familiar with complex interdisciplinary projects in the field of application-oriented basic research. The Junior Professorship
is involved in teaching with an optional (Wahlpflicht) course in the field of materials science and engineering.
The ability to teach in English and German is a prerequisite since lectures will be offered in both languages. The active
participation in the academic self-administration of Clausthal University of Technology is also expected.
The requirements for appointment (§ 30 Lower Saxony university regulations (NHG)) include a university degree,
pedagogical and didactical aptitude, a particular ability for in-depth independent academic work, usually demonstrated
by the outstanding quality of the doctorate thesis.
The Junior Professorship is initially limited to a period of three years according to § 30 NHG.
Depending on successful evaluation the appointment can be extended for another three years.
Part time employment is not possible.
