Junior Professorship in Comparative Social Policy (f/m/d)

Fulltime, Salary level W1

Job Offer Reference No. 2020/246. The Junior Professorship at the Department of Politics and Public Administration is untenured and supposed to start on the 1st of October 2021.

The University of Konstanz is one of eleven Universities of Excellence in Germany. Since 2007 it has been successful in the German Excellence Initiative and its follow-up programme, the Excellence Strategy.

The Department of Politics and Public Administration at the University of Konstanz is seeking applications for a Junior Professorship in Computational Social Science.

The successful candidate should have an early track record in the comparative analysis of social policy, broadly defined, including education, labour market and health policy. Connections to research in comparative political economy as well as the analysis of social inequality are welcome. The successful candidate’s research should focus on one or more of the following topical areas: the analysis of the linkage between party politics and the welfare state, the implications of welfare state policies for the formation of attitudes and political behaviour, the analysis of reform processes in skill formation and welfare state politics from the perspective of political economy, the study of how technological change (digitalization) affects the politics of the welfare state as well as how social policy interacts with environmental justice and climate change politics. Teaching responsibilities will include classes in policy analysis, comparative welfare state and political economy research, both on the BA and MA level.

The candidate must hold a doctoral degree either in political science, sociology or a related social science, with an evident inclination to respect and pursue interdisciplinary work in the social policy analysis. Applicants should have a promising research record, substantiated through publications in high-ranked journals, as well as previous teaching experience in the above mentioned field.
