The Technische Universität Ilmenau is characterised by a special expertise in the areas of
optical and lighting engineering which reaches back to its beginnings. The introduction of the
Junior Professorship shall broaden and strengthen these areas in research and education.
Within the Department of Mechanical Engineering the development of adaptive light projection
systems acts as a bridge function between the following groups: Optical engineering, Lighting
Engineering, Image Processing/Quality Assurance, Optomechatronics, Automotive Engineering
and Information Technology in Production and Logistics. Within the university there are
connections to the Media Technology group. We are looking for an internationally recognized
young researcher with excellent didactic skills. The successful candidate will be expected to
develop further an adaptive light projection which is based on models of digital projection systems
or adaptive high-beam headlights, and which is transferred to a variety of applications.
The topic covers adaptive street and indoor lighting (e. g. "Human Centric Lighting") as well as
external building illumination, projection based assistance and measurement systems, projectors
as luminaires, mobile laser/video projection, interactive virtual planning and visualisation
(e. g. for architectural lighting) up to studio and event applications.
We welcome applications from graduated scientists with research experience in one or more
of the following areas:
Imaging Science & Technology (e. g. Digital Light Processing)
Lighting Engineering / Illuminating Technology (e. g. photometry and colorimetry)
Optical equipment technology (e. g. micro-displays in data glasses, 2D- / 3D-measuring
Visual information and communication technology
In addition to excellent research, teaching of undergraduate and graduate level courses in
"optics of lighting systems" is expected. Essential requirements are pedagogical aptitude and
