German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE)Berlin
The German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) investigates the causes of diseases of the nervous system
and develops strategies for prevention, treatment and care. It is an institution within the Helmholtz Association
of German Research Centres with nine sites across Germany (Berlin, Bonn, Dresden, Göttingen, Magdeburg, Munich,
Rostock/Greifswald, Tübingen and Witten). The DZNE cooperates closely with universities, their clinics and other research facilities.
For the site Berlin, we are inviting applications for a
Junior Research Group Leader (f/m)
Of particular interest are Neuroscientists and Clinical Scientists interested in mechanisms of neurological
disorders and neurodegenerative diseases. The primary criteria for appointment will be a strong record of
innovative research and academic performance, including papers in leading journals, as well as high potential
for establishing a rigorous and substantial independent research program, and fruitful collaborations. The Berlin
site is currently focused on mechanisms of synaptic transmission and network activity in health and disease.

Employment, payment and social benefits are determined by the public sector collective agreement (Tarifvertrag für
den öffentlichen Dienst – TVöD). Junior Research Group Leaders at the DZNE have the opportunity to
participate in a tenure-track program. To be eligible to this program, Scientists should have received their Doctoral
degree not more than six years prior to the time of application. Periods that an applicant has spent in caring for his
or her own children or dependents, of up to two years, are not counted as part of the time that has elapsed since an
applicant’s doctoral degree was awarded.
