The European Institute for Energy Research EDF-KIT EWIV (EIFER), established by EDF and KIT, located in Karlsruhe is currently looking for a


EIFER’s research is aimed at developing and improving innovative clean energy technologies as well as tools and approaches for the sustainable development of cities, territories and industries. EIFER also works in the field of environmental research to assess and better manage impacts induced by the energy sector. To this aim, EIFER focusses on innovative approaches based on territorial, ecological and environmental economics.

The assigned tasks involve
  • Qualitative and quantitative assessment of interactions between electricity production infrastructures and biodiversity, including modelling of ecosystem functions and services, and valuation of non-market environmental goods (monetary and non-monetary)
  • Analysis of the interactions between energy-related activities (in particular electricity production) and territorial development, including the assessment of multicriteria, economic and monetary indicators
  • Technical watch of best practices, regulatory and scientific evolutions regarding biodiversity, and innovative biodiversity-related management tools and methods in order to support our industrial partners by offering them a clear view on related risks and opportunities
  • Participation to external working groups and conferences, at the local or territorial scale
  • Preparation of research proposals
Required qualifications
University degree (at least masters degree or equivalent) in a field related to:
  • Environmental economics
  • Management with a focus on environmental and biodiversity related issues
Further competences
  • Interdisciplinary and analytical thinking and curiosity
  • Ability to work independently and responsibly in a structured way and to convey clear and efficient messages
  • A major in quantitative evaluations method such as econometrics would be appreciated
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and at least one of the two languages: French (in priority) and German
  • Openness to contribute to other EIFER projects (for example on sustainable cities and territories)
