Light Microscopy Specialist (f/m)

at the earliest possible date. The position is funded by the Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD), DFG research centre
and cluster of excellence of the TUD, working in the areas of hematology/immunology, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases as well as
The Light Microscopy Facility is part of the CMCB Joint Technology Platform jointly run by CRTD, BIOTEC and B CUBE, which offers
services as well as state-of-the-art technologies and equipment. The facility serves more than 250 users per year and offers a
collection of more than 20 state-of-the-art light microscopy instruments. The available equipment ranges from high-end confocal
systems to basic fluorescent video microscopes. The Facility provides user training and full technical support for all the instruments
along with advice on microscope selection and the design of imaging experiments as well as data processing.
The contract is initially limited until 31.12.2018 with a possibility of extension.
The main scope of the applicant is to serve the facility users. This includes the introduction of users to microscope systems,
immediate help and trouble shooting and providing advice on imaging project design especially for advanced imaging technologies
like 2-photon Microscopy, FCS, FRET and FLIM. The applicant correctly adjusts, maintains and repairs the instrumentation in
collaboration with the instrument manufacturers. Furthermore, the applicant will theoretically and practically evaluate new
technologies for the renewal and extension of the facility equipment in collaboration with international working groups and
microscope system manufacturers. The applicant will be involved in the facility teaching activities (master students) and
the presentation of the facility to the public. Moreover, the applicant participates in conferences and represents the
facility on those meetings.
PhD degree and strong background in natural sciences, preferably in Physics, Biophysics or a closely related subject
Open-minded communicative team player, who enjoys working in an international research environment
High Motivation to support the work of all facility users
Deep knowledge of current high-end light microscopy methods as well as sound experience in optics is expected
Experience with advanced imaging methods like 2-photon Microscopy, FCS and FLIM is a strong plus
Knowledge regarding data evaluation, statistics and image processing is beneficial
Experience and knowledge in the field of laser protection regulations and its implementation is a benefit but not mandatory
Communication in English is essential since we offer an international working atmosphere at the CMCB and are participating in international projects
A background in programming, statistics and data analysis will be helpful
