As part of the HR Department you will contribute to make ESA achieve its goals by creating a creative and multicultural workplace. Our mission in
HR is therefore to provide an effective human resources management for ESA by developing and implementing relevant policies, programs and services
and acting as change agent.
As an intergovernmental organisation, ESA has legal autonomy in establishing its employment conditions and HR policies as well as the associated
dispute resolution system. At the same time, HR needs to respond to expectations of the Agency’s stakeholders, be it the ESA Member States or the
ESA Staff Association. Your mission is to support our team with your legal expertise, integrity and creativity.
As our trainee, we will make sure that you work on a considerable variety of administrative and employment law issues related to the international civil
service, social security, pensions and general HR matters. You will be closely involved in the day-to-day business, attend meetings, conduct research
and draft legal documents, including legal briefs in the context of employment law dispute resolution.
You will be assigned to the following tasks under the authority of the Head of the Staff Regulations and Rules Unit, within the Social and Central Affairs Division:
support to the drafting, updating and interpretation of the Staff Regulations, Rules and Instructions, as well as policy documents in line with the relevant policy decisions
assist in the preparation of legal submissions in the context of dispute resolution proceedings
assist in the day-to-day handling of administrative requests
conduct research on HR policies and the law of the international civil service
carrying out studies and other tasks associated with the activities of the Division, as required, in particular in the field of social security and pensions

applicants should have just completed (conclusion not older than two years) either the Second State Examination in Law or a university course at Master’s level in Law
candidates, who are in the final year of their training, may be considered in cases of exceptional qualifications
basic knowledge of public and international law is required. Specialisation in public administrative law, labour law and/or public international law would be an asset
excellent knowledge of English is required; a good knowledge of French and another language of one of our member states is an asset
German citizenship is absolutely necessary
