for HPC, Edge and Cloud Systems (TV-L 13)
THE HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPUTING CENTER STUTTGART (HLRS) I AT THE EARLIEST OPPORTUNITY
The High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) is the first national supercomputing center in Germany. Hosting one of the fastest supercomputing systems worldwide, it offers services and support in the area of High Performance Computing to users from academia, research and industry. Additionally, HLRS is one of the world leading institutions in the research fields of supercomputing, grids and cloud computing and participates in the cluster of excellence on simulation technologies. HLRS as a central unit of Stuttgart University is heavily active in research on new technologies and solutions in national and international projects, participating in a high number of funded research activities.
For the development of new solutions and support services for acceleration and energy efficiency at the edge and cloud and high performance computing systems, we offer a vacant position as Performance Engineer (m/f/d) for HPC, Edge and Cloud Systems (TV-L 13), HLRS_04_2021, within the European research project SERRANO. The project intents the definition and development of an intent-based paradigm of operating federated infrastructures consisting of edge, cloud and HPC resources. As performance engineer you will provide application developers and infrastructure operators with tools that (i) help to increase the performance of workload processing under real-, or run-time requirements under maximum affordable error in cloud and edge and develop (ii) a framework that will assist developers in incorporating the performance and power model functionality into the design and programming of their data- and computationally intensive digital services on the SERRANO platform.
The contracts are restricted according to German law (WissZeitVG) and are limited to the project duration. The position also includes the possibility to pursue a doctoral degree (PhD), an opportunity explicitly supported by HLRS.
The candidate will become a member of the department „Numerical Methods & Libraries“ and will work in an international team on analyzing and improving efficiency of applications and systems (i.e. increasing the energy efficiency of use of hardware resources) on leading edge, cloud and High Performance Computing systems. In order to do so, you will closely cooperate with the application owners and users from the scientific and industrial area. You will bring in your knowledge and expertise in conceptual, practical implementations as well as technical skills targeting innovative solutions.
