PhD position in Anaerobic Microbial Physiology (f/m/d)
(Teilzeit 65%, E 13 TV-L)
Reference No. 2021/004. The anticipated start date is
April 1st, 2021 or by agreement. The position is available for three years.
The University of Konstanz is one of eleven Universities of Excellence in Germany. Since 2007 it has been successful in the German Excellence
Initiative and its follow-up programme, the Excellence Strategy.
The position is available in the research team of
Dr. Nicolai Müller in the
Limnic Microbiology group of
Prof. Dr. David Schleheck. The subject of the research project is the
“Biochemistry of thermophilic degradation of C1 and C2 com-pounds in Thermaceto-genium phaeum”. The
anaerobic bacterium
Thermacetogenium phaeum is a thermophilic acetogen that runs the Wood-Ljungdahl-pathway in both the acetate-forming
and acetate-degrading direction, while acetate degradation is only possible in syntrophic cooperation, i.e., through maintenance of a low hydrogen
partial pressure by a methanogenic partner. The responsible enzyme systems will be characterized as part of this project, using traditional
microbiological and biochemical methods and modern proteomic, transcriptomic and reverse-genetic analyses. The project offers an exciting
opportunity for candidates wishing to conduct innovative research relevant for both fundamental and applied sciences. The working language is
English.
