Topic: Essays in Auditing
This project aims at conducting novel and high-quality research to address economic questions in the field of (external) auditing. Auditing is a monitoring mechanism that aims to safeguard the credibility and quality of financial reporting. High-quality audits are important as they support public trust and confidence in financial reporting, which contributes to financial system stability. In our research group, we typically conduct empirical (archival) studies using large public and proprietary financial and/or other databases. In this project we will investigate a number of research questions that relate (but are not limited) to: auditor regulation; audit market competition; the quality of external audit assurance; and external auditing in industries characterized by systemic risk. The specific focus of the project will be determined in consultation with the candidate, based on prior experiences or interests.
Besides conducting academic research, a small proportion of your time will be devoted to teaching-assistance and the supervision of a limited number of master theses.
Your job will consist of the following main activities:
You conduct high-quality academic research under the supervision of your promotors.
You present your research findings at national and international conferences and will publish in internationally recognized journals. The aim is to compose a PhD dissertation in Business Economics.
Teaching-assistance and supervision of a limited number of master theses.
You have earned a Master degree in business economics, business administration or equivalent. You obtained excellent study results and you meet the conditions described in sub section 3 (paragraphs related to the doctoral program in business economics) available through the following link:
Specialization and /or experience in Accounting is a plus.
Having good skills in applied quantitative research methods, applied econometrics and expertise in statistical software is considered a plus.
You are proficient in English, both in written and spoken form.
You are quality-oriented, reliable, creative and you like to work in team.
We offer employment as a full-time doctoral researcher for a maximum period of 4 years (pending positive yearly evaluations).
