The
Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics in Frankfurt/M. (MPIEA), Germany, investigates the cognitive, affective, neuronal, and sociocultural foundations of aesthetic experience.
The institute is offering a
fully funded PhD position
in the
Department of Music.
Together with collaborating partners from various international universities, the MPIEA pursues the highly innovative research project "Experimental concert research", funded to a large extent by the Volkswagen foundation.
The PhD student will be part of the MPIEA-based team and work on projects in the field of experimental concert research, primarily aimed at developing tools for the investigation of aesthetic experiences as reflected in psychophysiological measures. Behavioral measures may also be used as needed.
Requirements:
- excellent Master in Psychology/Cognitive Sciences, (Empirical) Musicology or similar fields
- experience with empirical research methods, esp. psycho-physiological measurement
- interest in music and the format of the classical concert
- explicit interest in, and high motivation for, scientific research
- excellent command of English (also written) and German
The position is for a period of three years, with a possible extension of up to one year. The
anticipated starting date is
January 2019.
Salaries are determined pursuant to the salary scale TVÖD 13 (Bund). The PhD position is filled with 50% of a regular contract, on top of that a 25% revocable recruitment bonus.
